Houston to Host 2025 AAU Junior Olympic Games Across Five Venues This Summer
Houston, TX, July 02, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), in collaboration with the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority (HCHSA), has announced that the 2025 AAU Junior Olympic Games will take place in Houston from July 22 to August 2, 2025. The nation’s largest multi-sport youth event will be hosted across five venues throughout the Greater Houston area, marking a significant moment for the city and for youth sports nationwide.
More than 16,000 athletes, along with their families, coaches, and spectators, are expected to descend on Houston for nearly two weeks of elite amateur competition. Athletes ages 5 to 18 from across the country will compete in over 20 different sports, including track and field, swimming, wrestling, gymnastics, basketball, and more. The Games not only showcase emerging athletic talent but also promote sportsmanship, leadership, and community engagement.
This marks the third time Houston has hosted the prestigious event, with previous editions taking place in 2012 and 2021. With its strong sports infrastructure and diverse, welcoming community, Houston continues to be a favorite host city for national and international athletic events.
Janis Burke, CEO of the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority, expressed pride in bringing the event back to the city. “We’re thrilled to once again welcome the AAU Junior Olympic Games to Houston,” said Burke. “This event brings incredible energy and excitement to the region, and we’re proud to provide top-tier venues and a memorable experience for athletes and their families.”
The five selected venues include:
NRG Park
George R. Brown Convention Center
Humble Civic Center Arena
Rice University’s Track & Field Complex
University of Houston Campus Recreation & Wellness Center
Each facility was chosen for its world-class amenities and ability to accommodate large numbers of athletes and spectators. The decentralized approach will allow for smoother logistics, ample parking, and reduced congestion, ensuring a positive experience for all participants.
AAU President Jo Mirza emphasized the broader impact of the Games: “The AAU Junior Olympic Games are more than just competition—they represent dreams, dedication, and the future of American athletics. Houston is an incredible partner in helping us deliver on that vision.”
The economic impact of the Games is also expected to be substantial. Local businesses, hotels, restaurants, and attractions will see an influx of visitors, generating millions in revenue for the city and surrounding areas.
In addition to the sporting events, Houston will host opening and closing ceremonies that highlight the city’s cultural diversity and community spirit. Volunteer opportunities, youth engagement initiatives, and community festivals are also planned as part of the broader celebration.
The 2025 AAU Junior Olympic Games promise to deliver not only outstanding competition but also a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere that reflects the heart of Houston and the spirit of youth athletics.
